It was a good run, but the West Chargers unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They suffered a tough 79-54 defeat at the hands of Piper. While losing is never fun, West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Pirates are ranked 16th).
Despite the defeat, West saw an underclassman step up: Keimani Paul scored ten points along with five rebounds and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnny Young, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
West's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5. As for Piper, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West will take on the Golden Bears at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Turner is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Piper, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions on Friday. Lansing is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
