While losing is never fun, Wilkinson County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while South Pike is ranked 125th).
Among those leading the charge was Makayla Robertson, who scored 16 points along with seven steals. Those seven steals set a new season-high mark for her. Deanna Lewis was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Wilkinson County's loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.4 points per game. As for South Pike, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Wilkinson County will head out on the road to face off against McComb at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Pike will take on Clinton Christian Academy in a holiday battle at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at. Clinton Christian Academy is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
