The Wayne County War Eagles will square off against the Clarkdale Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Wayne County's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Laurel 20-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the War Eagles.
Madison Stokley looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Wayne County let Gracie Swindle and Annah Carr run wild. Swindle went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Carr went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Swindle has posted since back in April of 2024. Karson Tate was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
Wayne County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .852. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Clarkdale, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Scott Central with a sharp 13-1 win on Thursday. Considering the Bulldogs have won six games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaela Edmonds made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Bella Castillo and Abby Mowery did most of the damage at the plate: Castillo scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Mowery scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Castillo also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Lundy, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Wayne County's victory bumped their record up to 5-11-1. As for Clarkdale, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
