After five games on the road, Lutheran is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Ponderosa Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Lutheran's 23-4 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 53-38 to Chaparral. While losing is never fun, Lutheran can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 182nd, while Chaparral is ranked 40th).
Lutheran's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Berkley Schneider, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds, and Jayda Vigil who scored 13 points. Mikaela-zoe Colon was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Ponderosa's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Legend on the road and fell 85-13. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Ponderosa has scored all season.
Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Ponderosa, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Lutheran strolled past Ponderosa in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a score of 61-44. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Ponderosa's Kayli Spall, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Now that she won't be playing on Saturday, will it be that much easier for Lutheran to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
