The Clear Creek Golddiggers will venture away from home to take on the Dawson School Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Dawson School took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Clear Creek, who comes in off a win.
Clear Creek took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They walked away with a 12-7 win over Ellicott.
Zephyr Schuessler made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Blake Weichel was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Clear Creek's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Nolan Underwood also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Clear Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Dawson School fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Platte Valley on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They came up short against the Broncos, falling 10-2. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.
Dawson School saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shelton Johnson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run. Milo Richtel was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Dawson School's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8. As for Clear Creek, their record is now 6-7.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Clear Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Dawson School struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clear Creek suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Dawson School in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Golddiggers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
