Edgewood is 9-1 against Geneva since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Warriors will host the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Edgewood had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Lakeside on Monday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Warriors are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 11 straight.
Edgewood got a big performance out of Faith Vencill, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles Vencill has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Joslyn Newbold, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Edgewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Geneva). Everything went their way against Lakeside on Tuesday as they made off with a 22-1 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Caidyn Siegel made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four runs, two RBI, and one double.
Geneva now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Edgewood, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Edgewood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .403. However, it's not like Geneva struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Edgewood's way against Geneva in their previous meeting on April 13th, as Edgewood made off with an 11-4 victory. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
