The Sparta Bulldogs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton as Sparta made off with a 63-39 win. The win was just what Sparta needed coming off of a 63-18 defeat in their prior game.
Sparta was led to victory by Maddie Schulein and Serenity Richardson. Schulein scored 21 points, while Richardson scored 14 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Richardson has scored all season. Liberti Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Despite the loss, Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton still got an impressive performance from Shelby Grove, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Sparta's win bumped their record up to 5-13. As for Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sparta will take on Carlyle at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Cobden at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Illinois (Cobden is ranked 647th, while Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton is ranked 664th).
