The New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly Vipers will take on the Olympia Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Olympia took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly, who comes in off a win.
New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Pittsfield on Friday. The Vipers walked away with a 27-14 win over the Saukees. The Vipers haven't had any issues with the Saukees recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Michael Pecoraro went supernova, rushing for 145 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 260 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Conner Stinson, Charlie Neuman, and Evan Spencer picked up one apiece. New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly got some further help from Cash Thomas: he made 13 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Olympia lost to Williamsville at home by a 50-36 margin on Friday. The Spartans gained 102 more yards on the day, but it was the Bullets that made the best use of them.
New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly will have to contain Jimmy Lollar as he made an impact in Olympia's last game. He rushed for 240 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Lollar has been hot, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last seven times he's played. Kolin Simpson was another key player, rushing for 134 yards and one touchdown.
Olympia's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 161.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Olympia struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 390.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
