The Mitchell County Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their tenth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 57-22 loss at the hands of Pelham. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mitchell County in their matchups with Pelham: they've now lost nine in a row.
Adrianna Burkes and Layla Mango certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Burkes scored five points, while Mango scored no points.
Even though they lost, Mitchell County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pelham only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Truth Wimberly was her usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with five assists and five steals for Pelham. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wimberly has scored all season. Sariyah Chester was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with two steals.
Mitchell County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Pelham, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Mitchell County will head out on the road to face off against Pataula Charter Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Pataula Charter Academy is ranked 475th, while Mitchell County is ranked 498th). As for Pelham, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Brooks County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Brooks County is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
