Atkins and Mayflower are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Atkins came out on top against Bigelow on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Red Devils took their game against the Panthers 5-2. That looming 5-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Red Devils yet this season.
Presli Boger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Azzy Ketchum, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Serenity Duvall, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Mayflower waltzed into their matchup on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Sand Lizards as they made off with an 11-1 win.
Ruby Otts made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Mayflower got a massive performance out of Bronwyn Brown, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Monika Goodnight was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Mayflower always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dardanelle only posted an OBP of .227.
Mayflower's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Atkins, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Atkins has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like Mayflower struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Atkins couldn't quite get it done against Mayflower when the teams last played back in April of 2025 as they fell 8-5. Will the Red Devils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
