Softball Game Preview: Aragon Dons vs. Carlmont Scots

For the first time this season, Aragon will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Thursday. They will take on the Carlmont Scots at 6:30 p.m. Carlmont took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Aragon, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Aragon made easy work of Mercy and carried off a 12-1 win.

Makayla Hafoka looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Destiny Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Olivia Mukherjee was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Aragon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Carlmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Archbishop Mitty. One positive for the Scots, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Molly Brand made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Daniella Smit, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Aragon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. Carlmont's loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Aragon suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Carlmont when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Aragon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
