The Zeeland East Chix's's six-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Wednesday. They breezed by Forest Hills Eastern on the road to the tune of 59-31. Zeeland East's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Leading Zeeland East to victory were Emily Wierenga and Lizzie Risdon. Wierenga dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds, while Risdon scored 13 points along with five steals. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Mirra Fenlon, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Zeeland East's victory bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Forest Hills Eastern, they have fallen quite a ways from their 17-7 record last season and are now at 0-3.
Zeeland East will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Forest Hills Northern at 5:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Forest Hills Northern will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line. Forest Hills Eastern will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Thornapple Kellogg at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Thornapple Kellogg's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Forest Hills Eastern's offense will have their work cut out for Forest Hills Eastern.
