The Holmes County Blue Devils waltzed into their contest Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 67-56 win over Blountstown. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Emma Whitaker was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 19 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Holmes County's points. Savannah Goodman was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Blountstown saw an underclassman step up: Cyianna Smith scored 21 points. The game was Smith's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Khloe Johnson, who scored 13 points.
Holmes County pushed their record up to 7-5 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Blountstown, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-1.
Holmes County will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Marianna at 5:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Blountstown will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Port St. Joe at 5:15 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
