The Wildwood Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 63-48 to Hope Academy. While losing is never fun, Wildwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 610th, while Hope Academy is ranked 292nd).
Despite the loss, Wildwood saw an underclassman step up: Zayden Garcia scored 20 points. Terriyon Bryant was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
Hope Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dwayne Foreman III led the charge by scoring 14 points along with nine assists and two steals. Foreman III has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Willie Griggs, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks.
Wildwood has not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Hope Academy, their win bumped their record up to 17-9.
Wildwood will stay at home for another game and welcome North Marion at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. North Marion is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Hope Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Four Corners at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
