The Roby Lions are taking a road trip to face off against the Westbrook Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Roby has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Roby came into their game last Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Hermleigh, falling 13-3.
Roby saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ariela Castaneda, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double was Castaneda's first of the season. Another was Abigail Carlile, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Westbrook hadn't done well against Ira recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Bulldogs 9-8. Surprisingly, this marked the Wildcats' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Lillian Gibson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Savannah Chavez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Westbrook has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Roby, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Roby has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .579. However, it's not like Westbrook struggles in that department as they've averaged .544. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
