The Wellington Dukes came tearing into Saturday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 46-35 victory over Vermilion. For Wellington, this counts as revenge for the 49-47 loss Vermilion walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Wellington was led to victory by Brooke Lehmkuhl and Gabby Miller. Lehmkuhl dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Miller dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Miller has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Savannah Gundert, who scored eight points along with six assists and five steals.
Wellington pushed their record up to 14-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Vermilion, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wellington will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Valley Forge at 1:30 p.m. on February 12th. Wellington is facing Valley Forge at the right time seeing as Valley Forge is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Vermilion, they will head out on the road to take on Willard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Willard is facing Vermilion at the right time seeing as Vermilion is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
