Softball Recap: Orangeburg Prep Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Orangeburg Prep entered their tilt with Thomas Sumter Academy on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Generals 14-2. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 15-0 win on Thursday.

Lauren BaLLew was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Orangeburg Prep let Natalie Hall and Prestan Schurlknight run wild. Hall went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Schurlknight scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Hall a new career-high. Jayme Culler was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Orangeburg Prep hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.

Orangeburg Prep's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Thomas Sumter Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
