The New Milford Green Wave will head out on the road to face off against the Cheshire Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for New Milford and seven for Cheshire.
On Thursday, New Milford ended up a good deal behind New Fairfield and lost 51-37. New Milford has struggled against New Fairfield recently, as their contest on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kelvin Mendoza, who scored six points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Ryan Esposito, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and two blocks.
New Milford struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Cheshire pushed their score all the way to 69 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Sheehan by a score of 72-69.
New Milford's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Cheshire, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.
New Milford didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Cheshire when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 45-41 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Milford since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
