The Mountainside Wolves''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Phoenix Christian 37-0.
KOLTON HURT threw for 62 yards on nine of 21 attempts. ANTHONY GONZALES was his top target, picking up 36 receiving yards and no touchdowns. On the ground, DANIEL GREGG rushed for 41 yards.
Phoenix Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Javien Willis, who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Z'yeon Rondan was another key contributor, rushing for 49 yards and three touchdowns.
Mountainside's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 Camp Verde and 6-3 Cortez (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.9% over those games). As for Phoenix Christian, the victory was the third in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Mountainside will head out on the road to face off against Highland Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Highland Prep is ranked 198th, while Mountainside is ranked 208th). As for Phoenix Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Kingman Academy at 7:00 p.m.
