Huntingtown had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Northern on Thursday. The Hurricanes never let the Patriots get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Hurricanes, who have now won seven contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Jordyn Greever's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Huntingtown saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madalee Hunley, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Huntingtown pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Northern, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Huntingtown is set to take on their familiar foe McDonough on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Northern will face off against rival Chopticon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 2.7, the Braves 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
