McGavock and Hillsboro are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Raiders will head out to face off against the Burros at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Things were looking good for McGavock after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Cane Ridge by a score of 6-5. Raiders fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Ravens since on Tuesday.
Montay Keel and Cody Calvin were huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, Keel tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Calvin tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. What's more, Keel gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March. At bat, Keel went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Calvin went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That double was Keel's first of the season.
In other batting news, Trenton Hale made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Montario Ostine also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro suffered their biggest loss since March 5th on Wednesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (10-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
Hillsboro saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Gooch, Jr, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
McGavock's record now sits at 5-10. As for Hillsboro, their record is now 16-7.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. McGavock has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .514. However, it's not like Hillsboro struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
McGavock came up short against Hillsboro in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 11-8. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
