The University School Preppers will challenge the Brunswick Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Brunswick will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: University School extended their winning streak to three on Saturday. The Preppers blew past Nordonia 8-1.
University School got a great performance from Crew Bellan as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Deacon Nelson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Tucker Greer, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
University School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nordonia only posted an OBP of .259.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Brunswick, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Riverside with a sharp 15-6 win on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Blue Devils considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Kayden Draiss looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Nick Wojtala was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Rauscher, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
Brunswick now has a winning record of 2-1. As for University School, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. University School has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .526. However, it's not like Brunswick struggles in that department as they've averaged .491. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
University School came up short against Brunswick when the teams last played back in May of 2022, falling 5-1. Can the Preppers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
