If the Valley Vikings were riding high off their 63-39 takedown of the DSST: College View Wolves last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Valley took a 73-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (63), Valley still had to take the loss.
Valley lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aidan Brownell, who scored 19 points along with seven assists and four steals. Owen Peterson was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Ethan Thyne was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with six assists and six rebounds for Sterling. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thyne has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Wesley Knuppel, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Valley's defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Sterling, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valley won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Wellington comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Sterling, they will head out on the road to square off against the Reds at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Eaton is ranked 81st, while the Tigers are ranked 105th).
