Basketball Recap: Caleb Trexler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Edgewood over Cocoa Beach

Edgewood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 56-48 to the Cocoa Beach Minutemen. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Red Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-33 last Wednesday.

Edgewood's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Trexler, who posted ten points in addition to five assists and four steals. The dominant performance gave Trexler a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Xavier Ruiz, who earned ten points.

Trexler wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Edgewood was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Cocoa Beach's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Max Louis, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. Louis is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Garrett Ronsisvalle was another key player, putting up eight points and six assists.

Edgewood's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Cocoa Beach, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-12 record.

Edgewood has already played their next matchup, a 55-36 victory against Space Coast on the 17th. As for Cocoa Beach, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 50-48 win against Astronaut on the 17th.
