The Redondo Union Sea Hawks will take on the South Spartans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Redondo Union 3.7, South 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Friday, Redondo Union came up short against Mira Costa and fell 4-1. The Sea Hawks have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Robby Zimmerman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over 6.2 innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March.
At the plate, Redondo Union saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mikey Ricardo, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a classic North v. South duel when South duked it out with North on Friday. The Spartans blew past the Saxons 13-3. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Dane Rhodes, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. South is 5-1 when Rhodes posts two or more runs, but 9-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Dow, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February.
South has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Redondo Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-12.
Redondo Union skirted past South 2-0 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Do the Sea Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
