Midland Trail had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Wyoming East on Thursday. Madison Rader made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season.
In other batting news, Midland Trail let Raelyn Morris and Jessi Mooney run wild. Morris scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Mooney went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most runs Morris has posted since back in April of 2024. Presley Walker was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Midland Trail always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Richwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 20-3 to Pendleton County.
Midland Trail pushed their record up to 2-4 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Richwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Everything went Midland Trail's way against Richwood in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Midland Trail made off with a 16-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Midland Trail since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
