The Dobson Mustangs will take on the Camelback Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Dobson comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Mesa hit Dobson with a eight-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs lost 14-3 to the Jackrabbits.
Steven Sthormes was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That hit marked the first that he has got this season.
Camelback never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Carl Hayden Community on Thursday. They blew past the Falcons 11-1.
Sergio Bacame was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Camelback: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-11 otherwise. Bacame was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Axel Serrano and Cash Cachola did most of the damage at the plate: Serrano went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Cachola got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Cachola is becoming a predictor of Camelback's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Morgan, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Camelback was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Camelback's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-12. As for Dobson, their loss dropped their record down to 0-19.
Everything went Dobson's way against Camelback when the teams last played back in March of 2025, as Dobson made off with a 17-1 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
