St. Paul is 9-1 against Mapleton since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Flyers will head out to face off against the Mounties at 5:00 p.m. St. Paul has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for St. Paul after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 13-10 to Western Reserve.
St. Paul saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izaac Snyder, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Another was Isaac Kalizewski, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mapleton). Everything went their way against Open Door Christian on Thursday as they made off with a 16-6 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Chase Sword and Mason Sword did most of the damage at the plate: Chase got on base in two of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs, while Mason got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Mapleton is 2-1 when Chase posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Cam Nichols was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Mapleton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
St. Paul's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-4. As for Mapleton, they moved to 3-6 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. Paul has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mapleton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
St. Paul took their victory against Mapleton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0 score. Do the Flyers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mounties turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
