The Roger Bacon Spartans lost against the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Roger Bacon fell 55-42 to Newport Central Catholic. While losing is never fun, Roger Bacon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 376th in Ohio, while Newport Central Catholic is ranked 60th in Kentucky).
When it comes to explaining why Roger Bacon lost, one person who can't be blamed is Morgan Rohling. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Fulton, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Roger Bacon has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Newport Central Catholic, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roger Bacon will take on Summit Country Day at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Newport Central Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Henry at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
