The Owen County Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the Walton-Verona Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Owen County waltzed into their matchup on Monday with three straight wins but they left with four. They claimed a resounding 72-30 victory over Carroll County at home. Given Owen County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Panthers are ranked 209th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, even though Aiken scored an imposing 81 points on Tuesday, Walton-Verona still came out on top. Walton-Verona managed a 86-81 win over the Falcons. The win was a breath of fresh air for Walton-Verona as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Owen County pushed their record up to 13-8 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Walton-Verona, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.
Owen County strolled past the Bearcats when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 68-50. Will Owen County repeat their success, or do the Bearcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
