The Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats lost against the Evansville Central Bears back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Evansville Mater Dei fell 51-43 to Evansville Central. While losing is never fun, Evansville Mater Dei can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Evansville Central is ranked 43rd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Evansville Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madalynn Shirley, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Shirley hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Mya Skelton was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.
Evansville Mater Dei has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Evansville Central, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-4.
Evansville Mater Dei will head out on the road to take on Evansville Bosse at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Evansville Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against New Albany at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. New Albany is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
