Metro Tech is 1-9 against the Stampede since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Metro Tech Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Fairfax Stampede at 7:00 p.m. Metro Tech is no doubt hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses.
Metro Tech scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They had just enough and edged Sierra Linda out 60-57. The victory was just what Metro Tech needed coming off of a 73-34 loss in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Metro Tech to victory, but perhaps none more so than Oswaldo Lopez Vargas, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Another player making a difference was Malachi Ivy, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Fairfax pushed their score all the way to 63 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were outmatched by Central at home and fell 97-63. While losing is never fun, Fairfax can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while the Bobcats are ranked 77th).
Metro Tech's victory ended a 16-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-21. As for Fairfax, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.
Metro Tech came up short against the Stampede in their previous meeting back in January, falling 50-43. Can Metro Tech avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
