The UME Preparatory Academy EAGLES suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They were outmatched by Westlake Academy on the road and fell 56-9. UME Preparatory Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-3.
Westlake Academy found their leader in underclassman Maya Sonday, who scored 26 points along with eight steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Sonday has scored at least a third of Westlake Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Carlson, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
This is the second loss in a row for UME Preparatory Academy and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Westlake Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
UME Preparatory Academy on the road again on Friday and play against Newman International Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. As for Westlake Academy, they will square off against Takoma Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Takoma Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Westlake Academy in their respective states (Takoma Academy is ranked 104th in Maryland, while Westlake Academy is ranked 704th in Texas).
