The Vero Beach Indians will head out on the road to challenge the Stewarts Creek Red Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vero Beach is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
While Vero Beach's victory against Satellite wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Vero Beach narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Satellite 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since February 20th.
Vero Beach got a great performance from Sebastian Dimitroff as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Jace Romans was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Hunter Johnston was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Vero Beach lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Stewarts Creek suffered their closest defeat since March 7th on Monday. They fell just short of Hendersonville by a score of 8-6. The Red Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Stewarts Creek also got a good showing from Devin Conner, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Conner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Chase Fernandez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hudson Schmitz, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
Vero Beach pushed their record up to 12-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Stewarts Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Vero Beach has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Stewarts Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
