The Winamac Warriors will head out to challenge the Caston Comets at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Winamac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Winamac lost 10-4 to North Miami on Thursday. Winamac hasn't had much luck with North Miami recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Winamac saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Ulerick, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Luke Clemons was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Caston made easy work of Culver Community on Thursday and carried off a 15-1 win. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Logan Mollenkopf and Brodie Howard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Mollenkopf tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Howard tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Mollenkopf got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Howard went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Gavin Mollenkopf was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Tucker Woolever also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Caston is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Winamac, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Winamac hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Caston struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
