It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They snuck past the Appleknockers with a 48-44 victory. The win was just what Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton needed coming off of a 63-21 defeat in their prior match.
Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brylee Martin out in front who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. It was the first time this season that Martin pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelby Grove, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Cobden lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dixie Kaufmann. Despite the final result, she went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 0 assists.
Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton's victory bumped their record up to 7-24. As for Cobden, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.
Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton will square off against Goreville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton is coming into the game with five straight victories on the road, so Goreville is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Cobden does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
