Basketball Recap: Derek Vasquez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Seven Rivers Christian

Berean Christian won the last time they faced Seven Rivers Christian and things went their way on Friday too. The Berean Christian Bulldogs walked away with a 67-58 victory over the Seven Rivers Christian Warriors. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Berean Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Derek Vasquez led the charge by going 6 of 11 en route to 14 points and four steals. Vasquez has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Alyk Smith, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 12 points and six boards.

Berean Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Seven Rivers Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Michael Johnston, who posted 23 points. That's the most points Johnston has posted since back in November of 2023. Noah Magill was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Berean Christian's record is now 7-10. As for Seven Rivers Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 7-10.

Berean Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 33-30 win against Babcock on the 18th. As for Seven Rivers Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 53-49 victory against Pineapple Cove Classical Academy on the 18th.
