After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fonda-Fultonville, Fort Plain was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 22-8 margin over the Canajoharie Cougars. The Hilltoppers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Lainie McDuffee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Fort Plain got a massive performance out of Daija Suits, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlynn Hart, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Fort Plain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory snapped Fort Plain's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 2-5 record. As for Canajoharie, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-5.
