Softball Recap: Independence Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Independence won against Stone Bridge on Tuesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Independence was the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Stone Bridge. The result was nothing new for Independence, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Emma Stringer spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ava Riolo was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Halliday Fulcher, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Independence's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Stone Bridge, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Independence is set to face off against their familiar foe Riverside at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Independence 2.9, Riverside 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Stone Bridge will challenge rival Briar Woods at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
