Winchester Community and Bluffton are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Golden Falcons will be playing at home against the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Winchester Community has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Winchester Community came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-3 to Hagerstown. The Golden Falcons haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Winchester Community saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allie Campbell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Bluffton came tearing into Monday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Flying Jets.
Madyson Sonnigsen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tressa Renner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Konley Ault, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Bluffton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 6-3 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Bluffton's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-13. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Winchester Community, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Winchester Community hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Bluffton struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Winchester Community beat Bluffton 11-7 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Do the Golden Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
