Amarillo is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Lubbock-Cooper is on a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. Amarillo will welcome Lubbock-Cooper at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Amarillo made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Monterey, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Amarillo blew past Monterey 25-2 on Thursday. The Sandies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Mykaela Samuels made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Amarillo got a massive performance out of Brianna Cloud, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5. Those seven RBI gave Cloud a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braylee Shuffield, who scored five runs and stole a base while going 5-for-5.
Amarillo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Lubbock-Cooper hadn't done well against Monterey recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Lubbock-Cooper never let Monterey get on the board and left with a 7-0 win.
The result came thanks to Brooklyn Ray's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 15 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on McKanna Garcia, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Arayla Grant was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Lubbock-Cooper has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. Amarillo's win bumped their record up to 15-5-1.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Amarillo has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .571. However, it's not like Lubbock-Cooper struggles in that department as they've averaged .501. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Amarillo skirted past Lubbock-Cooper 7-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Does Amarillo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lubbock-Cooper turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
