High Point hasn't had much luck against Wise recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Pumas at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
High Point will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Eleanor Roosevelt, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Raiders on Saturday, sneaking past 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since May 2, 2025.
Jadiel Soto made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Soto was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Wise, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 21-11 margin over Bladensburg on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Pumas, who have now won three games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Like High Point, Wise also got a great game from a two-way player: Christian Moore. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Moore a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Wise: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Wise got a massive performance out of Daron Williams, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The Pumas are 2-1 when Williams posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Reed, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs.
Wise always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Wise has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for High Point, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. High Point has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .533. However, it's not like Wise struggles in that department as they've averaged .543. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went High Point's way against Wise when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as High Point made off with a 13-1 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Pumas have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
