Softball Recap: Thornton Academy Has No Trouble Against Massabesic

Thornton Academy lost to Massabesic back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Trojans blew past the Mustangs 17-11. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Allison Marines and Emma Barnes did most of the damage at the plate: Marines got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI, while Barnes got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave Marines a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Allison Dattilo, who went 2-for-6 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Thornton Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Massabesic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.

Thornton Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Massabesic, they will venture away from home to take on Biddeford at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
