Basketball Game Preview: La Joya Community Fighting Lobos vs. Fairfax Stampede

The La Joya Community Fighting Lobos will take on the Fairfax Stampede at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (La Joya Community has four straight victories, Fairfax has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Thursday, La Joya Community really took it to Glendale for the full four quarters, racking up a 66-26 win. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Fighting Lobos had established a 23 point advantage.

It was another big night for Joseph Rukundo, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaseer Willis, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

La Joya Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Fairfax lost to McClintock on the road by a 73-59 margin on Monday.

La Joya Community will need focus on slowing down Michael Holdbrook, one of several Fairfax players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 17 points. Jayvon Foster was another key player, putting up 13 points.

La Joya Community is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.9 points per game. As for Fairfax, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

La Joya Community came out on top in a nail-biter against Fairfax in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, sneaking past 60-58. Does La Joya Community have another victory up their sleeve, or will Fairfax turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
