Culver Academies has gone a perfect 4-0 against Knox recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Redskins at 5:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Culver Academies comes in on eight and Knox on four.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Culver Academies and Tippecanoe Valley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Eagles put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 18-2 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Jak Chaney spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Trey Schumacher was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Grube, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Culver Academies was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Knox hadn't done well against South Central recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Redskins skirted past the Satellites 5-4.
Cain Weber was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 games.
Culver Academies' victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Knox, their record now sits at 9-4.
Culver Academies' speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Knox, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Culver Academies continue to outrun the ball?
Culver Academies was able to grind out a solid victory over Knox in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
