Aiken has been on the road for two straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Greenwood Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Aiken fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against North Augusta on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Yellow Jackets 68-63. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Aiken in their matchups with North Augusta: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Aiken got a solid performance out of Tre'von Walker, who scored 33 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Walker has scored all season. Jadan Young was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Greenwood didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Easley on Thursday, but they still walked away with a 71-66 win. The victory was just what Greenwood needed coming off of a 68-44 loss in their prior matchup.
Greenwood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cj Terrell out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds. Terrell hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Damarion Roman, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Aiken's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-11. As for Greenwood, their win bumped their record up to 18-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Aiken have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Greenwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Aiken beat Greenwood 47-35 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Will Aiken repeat their success, or does Greenwood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
