It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Weslaco Panthers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Mission at home to the tune of 35-6. The victory was just business as usual for Weslaco, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
Elias Rodriguez jr got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 244 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry.
Weslaco pushed their record up to 11-0 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Rivera and 2-8 Hanna (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.5% over those games). As for Mission, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Weslaco will square off against Jay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jay is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Mission does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
