After starting their season with two straight games on the road, Tamalpais is finally coming home. They will be defending their home-fieldthey go up against the Las Lomas Knights at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Last Friday, Tamalpais had to suffer through a 35-6 loss at the hands of St. Ignatius College Preparatory. While losing is never fun, the Red Tailed Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 296th, while the Wildcats are ranked 84th).
Despite their defeat, Tamalpais saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Timo Ural, who picked up 114 receiving yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. Ural got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 70 yards.
Tamalpais wouldn't let St. Ignatius College Preparatory keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Tamalpais can thank Aidan Dodge and Brendan Steinhofer for forcing both of them. Dodge also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up three sacks, forcing a fumble, and making six total tackles. Wyatt Leach was another major factor on D, making 12 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Las Lomas never let their opponents score on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 35-0 win over Benicia. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.
Roman Mercado went supernova for Las Lomas, picking up 199 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Thomas, who threw for 335 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt.
Las Lomas' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. The heavy lifting was done by Chase Martin and Kevin Lin who racked up five sacks between them. Lin is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.
Tamalpais' loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Las Lomas, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
