Football Recap: Central Skates Past Mt. Carmel with Ease

Central won the last time they faced Mt. Carmel and things went their way on Friday too. The Spartans simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Sundevils 41-13. The Spartans pushed the score to 41-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Sundevils cut but never quite recovered from.

Matthew Lizaola went supernova, rushing for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 carries. Those 136 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joshua Garcia, who picked up 93 receiving yards and one TD.

Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Garcia and Isaiah Aguirre. Garcia got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Mt. Carmel lost, don't look at Connor Gibbons. Despite the final result, he picked up 61 receiving yards and a pair of scores. The Sundevils also got help from Atticus Enriquez, who showed off his sure hands for 80 receiving yards.

The victory (which was Central's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 40.0 points this season. As for Mt. Carmel, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Central wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 30-6 victory against Southwest EC on the 11th. As for Mt. Carmel, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 26-12 defeat against San Diego on the 12th.
