Ellsworth is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Mount Desert Island is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Eagles will host the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Ellsworth 2.1, Mount Desert Island 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Ellsworth is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Old Town, who was ranked 21st at the time (Ellsworth was ranked second). The Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand the Indians a 6-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Eagles have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Jackson Berry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over 5.1 innings pitched. Berry was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ellsworth let Brayden Sukelich and Joey Beal run wild. Sukelich went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Beal went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Ellsworth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Old Town only managed three.
Meanwhile, Mount Desert Island sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Bucksport on Monday.
Preston Tripp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Colin Sullivan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May.
Ellsworth's win bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Mount Desert Island, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
Ellsworth beat Mount Desert Island 5-2 in their previous meeting back in May. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
